PointsBet is live to bettors in Ontario as of 2023.

PointsBet was started in Australia in 2017 making it a fairly new site for sports bettors. They are one of the most popular options now in North America as well and recently came to Canada in 2022 where they swiftly gained traction. PointsBet offers a high-quality site, great odds, and top-of-the-line features. They are a highly-used and trusted site for sports bettors.

PointsBet has limited deposit methods for their users in Canada but the options they do have most potential users will have anyways. The four options are PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, and Trustly. PointsBet always has tons of promotions but we found that they don’t last for very long so make sure to take advantage of them when they are available.

PointsBet Welcome Bonus and Promo Code

PointsBet offers a ton of free money in bets for their new users. Users will get five free bets up to $100 each for a total of $500 in free bets. Make sure to take advantage of this promotion as the offer expires seven days after it is issued to new users. If your bets lose then you will be refunded the bet amount in the form of free bets. The minimum deposit on the site is also only $5, which is less than most sites to get in the game.

Registration Process at PointsBet Sportsbook

We found the signup process for PointsBet to be fairly easy compared to other sites. It is a signup process similar to any other site where you need an account, although they do ask for your social security number. There is no ask for a photo id or anything like that. The entire process took just a couple of minutes, including verifying your email after you join.

Depositing & Withdrawal Options for PointsBet Sportsbook

PointsBet has just a few deposit options for its users. While there are few, the most popular deposit methods are available.

Mastercard, Visa, Interac, PayPal, and Trustly can be used to deposit. The same goes for withdrawals as they have the same options. The processing times on deposits and withdrawals are very fast. They claim to take between 1-4 days to go through.

PointsBet Desktop Experience

The PointsBet desktop version of their sportsbook looks very sleek. The color scheme of the site is black and dark gray with red accents and primarily white text. Spanning the entire top of the website is a carousel of some of their biggest promotions. PointsBet wants their users to take advantage of these promos so they stick around to place more bets, so that makes sense they promote them heavily. Directly under that they have their featured bets on one tab and their live bets on another tab. On the left side you can open a menu that shows a search option, all of the sports available to bet on, as well as the live streaming options. Find your current bets and betslip in the top right corner. Overall, it is a very easy platform to navigate.

PointsBet Mobile Experience

On mobile users will have essentially the same experience as on desktop. The layout is almost completely the same besides the added bottom bar that has the menu button, search, and the my bets section down there as well. The mobile site looks nice and features the promos in the same fashion as all of their other interface options.

PointsBet App Experience

An iOS and Android app are available to download to bet on with PointsBet. This app is very simple to navigate and follows the same model as the mobile experience. We found it way more convenient to play on the app than the mobile site though and it is worth downloading for that reason.

PointsBet Software

PointsBet runs on its own software. They were launched in 2017 in Australia and are privately owned so there is not much known about the software that they use, but it works great and gives users some of the best odds compared to any other site.

Sports Betting Markets Available at PointsBet

You will find that the major sports are available on PointsBet:

Etc.

They also offer less popular sports betting options as well:

  • Table Tennis
  • Handball
  • Rugby
  • Plus many others

When looking at the available events to bet on you will notice there is an option to click on the specific number of wagers available for that individual event. In some cases, there are over 100 different wagers that can be placed on a certain game which includes a ton of prop bet options.

The most common bets will be able to be placed with PointsBet:

Betting Lines at PointsBet

When searching other sportsbooks and what people were saying about the line on PointsBet we found that they have some of the most competitive lines out there. This means that you can get more bang for your buck on a lot of bets they have compared to other sites.

It is also a regular occurrence that they offer boosted odds on top of their already competitive odds for the biggest games or events. This is one of the promotions that they run that can be found directly on the lines when looking at different bets.

PointsBet Sportsbook Betting Features

The first feature that users will notice is how they display their promotions. They are definitely not hidden as they are the first and biggest thing on the entire site. This is one of the best features as there is always something that bettors can take advantage of.

Live betting is also a big part of PointsBet but they don’t promote it as heavily as other sites do. At PointsBet they want you to take advantage of the promotions first. They do have an extensive amount of live bets available though and it is easy to find on the homepage.

Their partial cash out is also promoted alongside all of their bets on the homepage. They want to make it known that most of the bets that you place can be cashed out at almost anytime after they are placed.

On all of the desktop, mobile, and apps it is easy to find the betslip. It is in the top right corner of the desktop and on the bottom right of the mobile site and app. On the betslip you can clearly see the bets you have added and how they would payout as single or parlay bets. You can also see your current bets right there on the betslip.

Live streaming is big on PointsBet. They have all of the features that the most popular sportsbooks do and their live streaming services are not skimped on.

PointsBet Canada VIP and Loyalty Programs

Unlike most sportsbooks, PointsBet actually has a program to earn points. This is called PointsBet rewards and every bet you place earns you points that can be redeemed for free bets. They also have a VIP loyalty program that earns you more free bets. You can earn 5% on your weekly handle, although this program is through an application only, and the higher stakes bettors get accepted first.

PointsBet Current Sportsbook Promotions

PointsBet loves its promotions. They make sure to feature them prominently on their website. It is the first thing that anyone would notice when logging in. In addition to $500 in free bets upfront you can find constant promotions going on all the time. Currently, they have boosted odds on some of the biggest games going on for specific bets that can be placed. They will always have something to take advantage of. Just make sure to check them out every day and click on the link to opt-in.

PointsBet Customer Support

PointsBet has 24/7 customer service via live chat. Their support is fairly good we found but can take a while to respond due to how many users they have. This is common with most sportsbooks of this size.

PointsBet Responsible Gambling Features

At the bottom of the site, you can find the link to responsible gaming. This section is actually laid out a lot nicer than most other sites we found. There are multiple drop-down bars shown instead of just an overload of text and information. It makes it easier to find info on who to contact if you have a problem, guidelines for responsible betting, and other useful things.

There is also software to set up limits on how much you wager on your account or how much you can deposit. This helps reduce the risk of irresponsible betting.

Our Verdict

While PointsBet is relatively new as they were created in just the last five years, they have grown quickly and are one of the most well-known and trusted sportsbooks. They started in Australia but now are one of the biggest and most popular in North America. The thing that bettors like the most about PointsBet are their favorable odds and constant promotions. Promotions won’t last long on the site though so make sure to take advantage of them while they are available. There are limited deposit methods but they should have an option you can use to get you in the game. This is definitely a sportsbook for Canadians to check out as they are new as of 2022 in the country.
