The cons here are minimal as there have been reports of a laggy app but for the most part, it works just fine. We found no issues with depositing and withdrawing on BetRivers. They allow major credit cards such as Mastercard and Visa as well as PayPal in Ontario. 

They claim that most withdrawals are completed within 24 hours but sometimes it can take one to four days. This is about standard compared to other sportsbooks. PayPal is an option for withdrawals but Visa and Mastercard are not.

The BetRivers desktop version of their sportsbook would feel extremely clean besides the newsfeed on the right side which takes up a lot of space and can be a little annoying and unnecessary. Other than that it is a very user-friendly site with popular betting options on the left side followed by the entire list of top sports leagues in action at the moment. One of the few yellow buttons is at the top left to attract your attention to their live betting section which is robust. Across the top, you will see their current promotions in the form of big block images. Overall it is a nice and clean desktop experience.

The mobile site is a lot more condensed than the desktop version which is normal. You also won’t see the newsfeed which is a bonus for us. On mobile, the list of sports goes horizontally across the top instead of vertically on the side and the promotions are under it showing just one at a time. In the middle are the current bets to look at and the bottom features promotions and rewards. Additionally, the live betting section is not as prominent on mobile, as it is the second option on the list and not highlighted like on desktop.

The mobile app is not much different from the mobile site experience. An iOS and Android app are available to download to bet on with BetRivers on your phone. For users playing on mobile, the app is always recommended over just the mobile site. The mobile version seems cleaner than the desktop and is also recommended.

Live betting is a big part of their offering as well at BetRivers. It isn’t as apparent on the mobile site and app but can be found in the top section. On the desktop version, it is impossible to miss as it is the only big yellow button. Their live betting options are great and can be found for almost all of the major sporting events going on. 

Like most other online sportsbooks now, they have a cash-out feature in the middle of a contest. Users can use what they call their “buy out” feature to do this, which is the same as a cash-out. Use this to take your profits early or cut your losses.

There is no 24/7 customer support which may be an issue for some people but there rarely should be an emergency where support is needed that instant. As far as their support team, there have been minimal complaints about their competency when available, however.

The responsible gaming section on BetRivers we found to be pretty bare. It is a white screen with text that looks almost like a terms and conditions page. There is probably some good information in there but it isn’t presented in a nice way. It is a long page of words that are all in the same font and presented as one long document. There aren’t any real resources there. 

Our Verdict

For a new sportsbook as of 2018 and one that is new to Canada in 2022, BetRivers has done some impressive things. They grew quickly in the United States and also offer a rewards program that is nice for new and current users to build towards. On top of that they have a great welcome bonus and constant promotions. Additionally, for Canadians, their hockey offering is one of the best we have seen. They have a ton of leagues and bets and even live stream NHL games which is rare. Overall, BetRivers is doing a great job of attracting new customers in Canada due to all of these features that benefit the user. They are worth checking out and at least making that first risk-free bet on.
